Cutting boards into lumber

On the device at a second saw, choose or scan a board, record the lumber cut from it, and keep its codes.

What this is for

At some mills, boards and slabs from the saw go on to a second saw: a resaw, an edger, a rip saw or a table saw. The device there records which board was cut and the lumber that came off it. Each piece of lumber gets its own code, the board's code and a number: 143-14-P03-2 is the second piece cut from board 143-14-P03. So every piece goes back to its board, its log and its tree.

Everything on this screen works without signal, and no saw needs to be taken.

Open the screen

  1. On the number pad, tap Saw.
  2. Tap Cut boards into lumber.
  3. The first time, tap the station you work at. The device remembers it; tap Change to choose another.

Choose the board

  • Tap the board in Boards of this lot. Boards still in stock come first, the newest at the top.
  • Or type its code in Board code and tap Find.
  • Or tap Scan the label and point the camera at the QR code on the board's label.

A code read off a piece of lumber finds the board it was cut from. A board that is not on the device yet says so: sync, then try again.

Record the lumber

  1. Tap a size under Sizes cut lately, or type the Thickness, Width and Length in whole millimetres.
  2. How many: type the number of pieces.
  3. Grade (optional): the grade as your mill writes it. Where your organization lists its lumber grades in the console, tap one; tap it again to clear it.
  4. Tap Add …. The pieces are saved on the device, their codes show in large type, and their labels go to the print queue.

The board, the size and the grade stay for the next pieces, so more of the same is one tap on Add … after the count.

Each group of lumber shows under Lumber from this board (…), with Print again and Remove. Removing asks once more on the same line. Removed pieces keep their numbers: they are not used again.

When the numbers do not add up

If the lumber from a board comes to more volume than the board itself, the screen shows a warning. Nothing is refused: check the sizes, and remove and add again what was typed wrong. The office sees the same warning under the lot's checks.

What happens to the board

A board with lumber recorded from it is Cut into lumber: it leaves the board stock, and the lot's figures count it once, as its lumber. If all its lumber is removed, it is back In stock.

A board whose lumber stands cannot be removed at the saw. Remove its lumber here first.
