Fell a tree
On the device, record a felling with its photo, location, cutter and time, and an optional note about the tree.
What this is for
A felling records that a tree is down: when, who cut it, a photo and where it stood. It is the first step on the tree's page. It works without signal.
Steps
- Find the tree on the number pad and tap Open.
- On the tree's page, tap Fell (or Record the felling in the steps).
- Photo: tap Take a photo. The camera opens inside the app. Frame the whole tree, base to top, with the stamp readable, and tap the large button. Another photo adds one more; Retake and Remove change one.
- Location: wait for Location taken. It comes by itself while the screen is open. Standing in the open helps.
- Who cut it: the last cutter on this device is filled in. Not right? Tap Change and pick the person.
- When: Now is filled in. For a tree felled earlier, tap Earlier, choose the day and type the time on the keypad, hours then minutes.
- Add a note about the tree, only if something is worth noting. It is never required. Tick what applies, or write a few words.
- Tap Save felling.
The app goes back to the number pad, ready for the next tree, with Undo for a few seconds.
What the lot asks for
The office decides, for each lot, whether a photo and a location are Required or Optional. Each part says which. If something required is missing, Save felling lists it under Still needed before saving:.
When the location is poor
Under trees the signal from the sky can be weak.
- Poor location taken: the app found one, but it is not accurate. Tap Try again or Take a new location to wait for a better one, or Use it if this is the best you will get.
- Location is off for this app.: tap Allow location, or turn it on in the device's settings.
- The app takes the location only while this screen is open. It never follows anyone in the background.
The person is not on the list
Under Who cut it, tap + Not on the list. Type the Given name and the Family name, and tap Add. The person is added to the organization's list when the device sends its records.
Tips
- The first time, the app asks for the camera and the location. Tap Continue and allow each.
- Photos stay encrypted on the device until they are sent. They never go to the device's gallery.
- Left the screen before saving? Your unsaved felling was kept. It is there when you come back.
- To change a felling later: on the tree's page, tap Correct on the felling step.
