Tree notes
Give crews a short list of notes they can tick about a tree's condition when they fell it.
What this is for
Sometimes a tree yields less than the office estimated because of its condition: rot, a hollow trunk, fungus, storm damage. Tree notes let a crew say so with one tap when they record the felling. Later, a low volume has an explanation.
Tree notes are never required. A crew can always skip them. Each lot has its own list. With no list, crews can still write a few words of their own.
Steps
- Open the lot and click Lot settings (the gear in the lot's header).
- Find Tree notes and click Change.
- For each note, fill in:
- Key: a short code that never changes, in lowercase letters, digits and
_, such asstem_rot. Exports use the key. - Name in English: what the crew sees, such as Stem rot.
- Key: a short code that never changes, in lowercase letters, digits and
- Click Add a note for the next one.
- Under Why, say why you are making the change. It is kept in the history.
- Click Save.
Devices receive the new list the next time they have signal.
What the crew sees
On the felling screen, the crew taps Add a note about the tree. They tick any notes that apply, or write in Note in your own words. The hint says "Never required."
In the console, a tree's page shows them under Notes about the tree.
Change or retire a note
- To rename a note, change its Name in English. Keep the Key.
- A note is never deleted. To stop crews picking it, tick Retired. Fellings that already chose it keep it. In the settings it shows with "(retired)".
Tips
- Keep the list short: five to eight notes. Crews read it standing in the forest.
- Use words the crew uses. Ask the foreman before you write the list.
- Notes describe the tree. They are not a reason for felling it.
- A felling without a note is normal. It never raises a flag.
- Names in other languages come later, with the app's other languages.
